Dan Auerbach (violin) and Joshua Pierce (piano) met in the 1990s through their mutual involvement with the American Festival of Microtonal Music in New York City. Both are current AFMM board members. With that institution and others, they performed extensively throughout the Metro New York region, and recorded numerous works together for the Pitch label. Projects included a broad range of works, from traditional and contemporary to collaborations with composers on highly experimental works incorporating avant-garde techniques. Auerbach and Pierce continued their partnership through the years, resulting in the creation of the Auerbach-Pierce Duo in 2014. Performances include Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Springer Concert Hall at The College of Staten Island, The College of Staten Island Recital Hall, West End Presbyterian Church as well as numerous other venues in NYC. The Auerbach-Pierce Duo has recently released a CD "The Devil's Trill" on the MSR Classics label, a testament to their long-standing and fruitful working relationship. It has received rave reviews from publications the world over, including the U.S. and U.K., cited as: "scintillating performances throughout" and "superb violin playing by Dan Auerbach and renowned pianism of Joshua Pierce". The Auerbach-Pierce Duo is excited about their upcoming two albums for MSR Classics, funded by PSC CUNY Awards. Works include 20th and 21st century compositions ranging from Cage and Gubaidulina to Ives, Ravel, Wyschnegradsky, Currier and many more.
